Saira Lagunas

Costume Breakdown and Costume Coordination

A graduate of the National School of Theatrical Art (INBA) in Mexico City, with a degree in Set Design specializing in Costume Design. She specializes in costume texturing, having completed the workshop “Costume Breakdown: The Art of Destruction” at Cafetcademy in Toronto, Ontario.

Her professional experience includes the coordination and texturing of costumes for various theater, opera, and musical comedy productions, in collaboration with the costume house "Trama & Drama, costumes and production," among which the musicals "Billy Elliot" (costume design by Estela Fagoaga), "Los Miserables" produced by OCESA, and the musical show "Querida" as an associate designer stand out.

 

Among other projects, we can mention “The Heart of Matter” under the direction of Luis de Tavira, the musicals “Hello Dolly!” and “Mamma Mia” for the Teatro de los Insurgentes, “Aunt Mariela” at the 2018 Cervantino International Festival, the operas “Otello”, “Distant Love”, “The Tales of Hoffmann” and “Florence in the Amazon” by the National Opera Company of Bellas Artes, “1984” and “Life is Better Singing” directed by José Manuel López Velarde, as well as the play “Network” under the direction of Francisco Franco.

 

As a costume designer, she has participated in projects such as “Opus Siniestrus” within the framework of the exhibition “Magic Tales” by Leonora Carrington at the Museum of Modern Art (2018), “Schrödinger Variations” directed by César Chagolla (2021), “Permanent Solutions for Common Problems” (2022) and “Jaguar de Luna” by Francisco Ibarra, as well as the solo performance “Cabeza Rota” by Zezé Figueroa (2023).
